Breaking News : Spambot leaks more than 700m email addresses in massive data breach

The comment from James Romer, EMEA Chief Security Architect, SecureAuth (below) on the recent breaking news regarding Spambot massive data breach.

“This latest Spambot leak highlights the fact that passwords are the root cause of many serious security problems for organisations today. 700m passwords and email addresses is a treasure trove for cybercriminals, but despite increasingly complex password use data breaches continue to soar. Ultimately, we need to ditch the password completely. Removing the ‘human knowledge’ element from the authentication process, improves security and improves the user experience. Going passwordless and using multifactor authentication methods like fingerprint or behavioural biometrics is a huge step forward in negating attempts to gain access using compromised credentials.”
